The One-Word Answer Post
It seems like my posts tend to grow shorter and shorter, no? I guess I'm not in the mood to be expansive, and of course my attentions have been focused on other things, lately, too.
So I'll sum up some recent stuff with ultimate brevity.
War of the Worlds: Disappointing.
Smart Pop Books: Addicted.
Alito: Nervous.
Chinese New Year: Jealous, but
Crowds: Noooo.
Girl Scout Cookies: Ordered.

Mommy's Little Helper
My other baby has been locked away in the closet for over two years. Because, as much as I love it, it doesn't go well with pregnancy or nursing. Sad -- tragic, even -- but true.
Now that the bub is down to one wake-up feeding, I'm free to throw my body into legal drug jitters after that. So yesterday morning, out came the demon child. I had to settle for my poison, but it was kind of a last-minute decision, so I could hardly be picky.
Sweet, sweet nectar. It was like the first time, all over again.

"Chickens in the houses, chickens in the trees..."
Apparently, the "Spirit in the Sky" guy retired to a Petaluma chicken farm. And sang about it. What a hoot! I mean, cluck.

King Me
Before we ordered our Select Comfort king (halleluia!), we had a very inadequate queen, which we bought when we moved out here. Our perfectly acceptable king mattress stayed in Michigan with a guy who just happened to be in the right place at the right time (we were ready to put it next to the dumpster - not something we'd planned or wanted to do, but the movers, who royally screwed us on truck space, made necessary).
Notice that we didn't order a California king. Nope! Because, in my limited Midwest king experience, it was easier to find bedding for a regular old king. I didn't realize that Cal king was a literal phenomenon, and that finding bedding for an "Eastern" king locally would be impossible.
I can't figure. Why would you want your bed to be longer, rather than wider, especially if you're married and not a basketball player? Do native Californians grow naturally taller than other Americans? Is it the wine? Or have they somehow mastered photosynthesis?

See?
Foam pit. I think the adults were having as much fun as the toddlers.

The Internet Needs a Foam Pit
There's nothing to refocus the misplaced angst in your little world quite like hurling and flopping yourself out of the foam pit at the gymnasium, in front of other adults. Losing your socks and dignity in the process. And laughing about it anyways.

No... It's All a Four-Letter Word.
I'm tired. A little depressed. Defeated. My foot hurts (that one's a mystery).
I haven't eaten anything truly "bad" in a good couple of weeks. Today sounds like an appropriate time to use food inappropriately.

Responsibility is a Four-Letter Word
I swear, I've spent five days straight online. Like Blogathon, but longer, and with some sleep. None of it with my email, RSS, IM, or, obviously, website. My butt, eyes, and stomach lining may well never be the same again.
If you're a mom (or dad!), and you'd care to take a peek at the fruit of our ulcers carpal tunnels labors, why not join us at the freshly resurrected mommietalk.net? The threads are already flying fast and furious.

The Closest Thing is Pocky
I wracked and re-wracked my brain... but I just couldn't come up with anything that costs a dollar and makes me nearly as ecstatic as Daniel's new shiny yellow ball makes him.

Updatery
Let's see, what am I up to? Aside from January grumpy slump, of course.
We took the bub to his very first Kindergym outing on Saturday. A real gymnasium (complete with chalk everywhere and the bouquet of unwashed leotard), with lots of climbing, sliding, hanging, jumping, and overall thrilling things for a small bubbins to do. This week I'll shoot some footage so you can see for yourself.
Every new year does seem to encourage my spirit of auld lang syne, if not a willingness to make resolutions, so back to the Googlemachine. Tim, I think I just snagged us a new member for the Class of '83 Scrabble League.
The official Best Thing in the World right now is 100 Calorie Pop(corn). It's the only enjoyable post-holiday snack that I can nosh daily without aftershocks of crippling guilt.
Tick-tock, forum. Your non-functional days are shortly numbered. And it's looking as if we get to do things the hard way...

AUUUUUGGGH.
Cars manufactured in recent years without LATCH can now officially kiss my ass.
I pulled a muscle in my side trying to install the new carseat. And it's still not as tight as I want it. Why, oh WHY? does it have to be brain surgery? I hate things that make me feel stupid and/or seek the aid of the police. There's got to be a better f&^$ing way.
Oh, yeah, there is - it's called LATCH!!! Grr.
That is all.

Mayfly 2005
Once again, it's time for The Mayfly Project. My 2005, in 24 words or less:
Moved, again. Almost moved, again! Seattle rocks. Walking bub! Talking bub! Loneliness. Back to school. Michigan... ugh. Straight A's, baby. McFly gone. Remain optimistic...

Druuuuuuuugs.
A bazillion Advils later, and I'm almost feeling human again. At least the forecast tomorrow doesn't call for rain, if no sun.
Speaking of drugs: no, I don't know what's going on with The Forum. I will say that, come Hell or high water (or both), it's getting moved to the new server by the month's end. Even if it means chucking it all and starting from scratch. Sick to death of the downtime, as are the dozens of people drifting away. Are you with me?
At least the bub amuses, even while sleeping. Through the monitor we'll hear little tossings and grumpy gruffles, until his crib aquarium music starts up. Smart little guy.

"It's the sun, it's the sun, it's the beautiful sun..."
Sorry. With all of Daniel's singing and talking toys, certain words have become associated with songs, and I can't help but break into them.
So, yes... sun! Our second day of it, in three weeks. There were floods, people. Floods! With evacuations, even.
Pre-bub, a rainy stretch would've meant a good excuse to drink a lot of coffee, read, and watch bad movies on cable. All in jammies, in front of the fire, of course. But now it means hours alone with an antsy-turned-cranky bub that doesn't get his outdoor time. Not pretty, that.
No mall. KMart flooded (literally!). Roads out of town unsafe. Even getting out to my car with him was often impossible, such was the force of the wind and rain.
So yesterday we went to the Community Center to sign him up for his Kindergym class and walk around the duck pond. I had to bring the oilcan for my atrophied legs, but the bub was tickled.
But what am I doing in here? We need to get outside while it lasts.
