Little Kids Only
This weekend we drove down to Berkeley (barely making it back with our lives, eep) to visit Habitot, a "museum" just for babies thru preschoolers. While a little disappointing to the grownups, the bub seemed to like it well enough.

Bubberstuffs
Some fun and funky kidstuff made by a Photoshop classmate. I particularly like the adorable little burp cloth/changing pad giftsets. And wouldn't a bub have fun in one of these pointy little hats? Hee.

Prevert.
Hey, you. Yeah, you, the person who keeps hitting me from a search for "spanking+my+wife." You're icky.

It's No Lost...
...but The 4400 will be back for a third summer season, at least. If you haven't been watching, it's diverting enough that you might even want to Netflix the season 1 and 2 DVDs.

Of course...
...the really neat thing about MySpace is that, thanks to the School search, you can bump into people you used to play tag with when you first moved to Michigan. And they'll write you a real nice note, and your whole week will be made.
So there is that. But there's also the fact you can be friends with Ryan And Pam -- they'll add you while they're taping the show, on-set! Whee! Apparently Dwight couldn't keep up and had to remove his. Man.

Mmm-Bop.
So I got sucked into MySpace (beware, it's very much a work-in-progress). Said I wouldn't. Did it anyways. Yes, that place where glitter graphics, unreadable contrast, and those hideous cackling free smiley ads go to die. I guess I'm channelling my inner seventeen-year-old. Or, "if everyone else jumped off a cliff..." Heh.

Psycho Babble
The sun did make an appearance this weekend, but of course I was struck by another bad cold. I'm feeling much, much better today -- just in time for more torrential downpours. The house-crazed part of me wants to pack up and head over to the valley for a day (brand-spanking-new IKEA?) -- but, no, even there, precipitation in the forecast as far as the eye can see.
The bub hasn't been out in days, so I think that, this afternoon, we're going to try to dodge the drops on my still-shaky legs, even if only for a short trip to Whole Foods. I haven't had a chance to pick up my Xylitol yet, and they're the only game in town that carries wholesome bub treats not tainted with high fructose corn syrup (grr).

D. applied a fancy-shmancy character verification thing-y to my comments, as I was under attack. Hopefully it will keep the bots at bay...

I'm Telling Maricar Five Things
But you can read them, too.
1. I like rain. I do. But this year I've had too much of a good thing. I can't drink enough coffee or eat enough dark chocolate to stay sane. And my jeans are pretty p**sed, too.
2. In certain circles, I'm tired of being painted the idiot because of my non-aligning views. It took a good decade to split from the bipartisan fray, amid much reading and soul-searching, and so who can blame me if I find the labels deeply insulting? Maybe I shouldn't take it so personally, I'll give you that. But. Would I call someone "misguided" or "led astray" for choosing Christianity? No. So can't we just revel in the the things we hold dear, like civil rights and Bush bashing? And Bush bashing? Kumbaya? Huh?
3. Dude, I got a Dell, and it rocks. It bears repeating.
4. I forgot how to pronounce "Tualatin" and "Willamette." Luckily I can still say "Oswego" and "Tillamook."
5. It confuses me that my RSS doesn't pick up Flickr photos that have been categorized as "Friends and Family Only," when indeed I am Friends/Family. What's up with that? I keep missing out on some of the best pics.

I Give Up!
We're not going to pretend that the weather is going to clear today. We're not even going to get dressed. We're going to hang out on the floor in jammies, nap, and watch Wonder Pets. Oh, and lots of Sucrets Sore Throat lozenges for me, because the scratchiness back there is about to drive me mad.
I have to give up on the Mars Trilogy. I rarely have the stomach to abandon books halfway, but with the bub, I'm realizing that life and time are too short to spend on fiction I'm not deriving at least some enjoyment from. Apologies to Robinson fans...

Bad Limerick Sunday
There once was a driver named Jennie
Whose meetings with red lights were many
But if her takeout was tipping
Or her CD a-flipping
Heaven forbid she'd get any!

Owie. Owie. Owie.
My sinusitis is really ramping up again lately. I spent most of today downing green tea, pseudoephedrine (methmethmeth, the feds are soooo tracking me), and Advil (now almost completely ineffective, sigh). Luckily the bub had a nice long nap, which gave me time to lay on the couch, clutching my stomach and moaning, in peace.
My fear is that I'll have to go under for another outpatient scrape 'n suck procedure. Many, many people have told me that it often takes more than one surgery to attain permanent effectiveness. At least they wouldn't have to touch my septum again, since they broke/reset that last time.
I'd gladly go through the pain again to get some long-term relief. The bub might not agree with me being voluntarily incapacitated for a week, though.
I think I'm going to get some Xylitol nasal spray at Whole Foods. I've had such amazing luck with my few bladder infections and cranberry -- miraculous, really -- that I can't help but hope my body would respond similarly to this.

Too Bad About All That Socialism, Though...
I've just recently found out that codeine is OTC in Canada. Now if that, paired with the fact that I needn't sign a contract to get my (very, very necessary) pseudoephedrine, isn't a good enough reason to chuck it all and move to Vancouver, then I don't know what is.

That Took Me Long Enough
I guess I've just been uninspired for four months. Anyhow, here's our fuzzy little Halloween chick in all his clucky, waddly glory. Or at least the parts he let me get on film.
Catchy little tune courtesy Nat King Cole; fun, no?

And He's Off!
Yesterday afternoon the sun shone (temporarily), the wind had stopped (mostly), and the temperature was friendly. So the bub and I decided to go for our first real walk around the block without the stroller.
I got a couple of very strange looks because I was using a harness. But I have an uncooperative, stubborn bub, one that will not tolerate hand-holding and tends to get a little too chummy with the street.
I keep reading that safety harnesses are more popular in Europe, but here I get the idea that many seem to view them at best as rather bizarre, and at worst borderline inhumane. Given the bub's temperament at the moment, it's either going to be a leash or the stroller. And always riding, when your new superpower is the ability to run like zee wind, hardly seems fun, does it?
Not to mention that it's awfully hard to wear a hyperactive bub out with a stroller. Aherm.
He had a great time. We might never have stopped walking (fast!) had he not tripped and given his head a bit of a bump.
