Somebody's Ringin' the Bell
I must say that the imminent arrival of two packages (one needing signature) via different services provides a perfect* excuse... not to vacuum today.

*ETA: Not that I don't have a whole host of imperfect excuses for the rest of the week.

The Pasties are Coming!
The pasties are coming!

Haven't had one since before the bubbins was born (or incubated!), so dinner tonight will be a rare treat.

  • Shannon! Came back!

  • PaperBackSwap.com is my newest web addiction. Books, and lots! A constant stream of mail! And reuse, kind of! What's not to love?

  • LibraryThing is getting better and better all the time.

  • I know that locals do pop in here from time to time -- if you're a mom, why not check out SonomaCountyMom.com?

    Parenting - Job + Toddlerhood = D'oh!
Folks, pardon me. For I'm becoming incredibly... stupid.

Words escape me [moreso than usual]. I forget things easily. Even basic CSS seems beyond me at this point. Yup. It's pretty bad.

We have Tot Loks in all our lower kitchen cupboards now -- metal latches that are opened through the door itself with a very strong magnet "key". Which, aside from some muttered curses when trying to locate the exact placement of the latch through the door, has worked well enough.

Until, one day earlier this month.

See, this one day? The Bub was throwing a marvelous hissy because Mommy wasn't fetching his snack fast enough. So, distracted and frazzled, Mommy set the key on a cabinet shelf while she rooted around for a little plastic bowl to hold the coveted Puffs. And, unaware of her magnet abandonment, she closed the door.

    D'oh!

Hours later, when I finally (painfully) retraced my steps, that door had to be removed by the hinges, since not a store in town carries a magnet strong enough to open a latch through 3/4" of solid wood.

We also have an abnormally sparkling clean lid on our dishwasher detergent bottle, as it was likewise abandoned to a load of dishes.

    Two Things...
    ...I'm trying at the moment:
  • Xlear Nasal Wash. I don't find it particularly "soothing" as billed, but, after a week of use, my shnoz does seem to feel better the rest of the time. We'll see if it cuts down the sinusitis attacks in the long run.
  • Vodka and water spray. For odiferous fabrics, 1 part vodka to three parts water. I've just used it on a stinky secondhand frame carrier, and some areas of the carpet. Keeping my fingers crossed while waiting for it to evaporate...

Except for the Theme Song, That Is.
Do we really need a new one? I think I liked the old one just fine.

At least the digging brought me this new little web addiction: Battleship.

    Newsy
We finally picked up a video camera this weekend. Nothing terribly fancy, but the price was great, it's very small and lightweight, and it appears to work just fine. It's fun to follow the cats around with the Night Vision mode.

When we first moved to Petaluma, you might recall that I had a heck of a time attracting birds to our new feeder. Now, a year later, I literally can't keep up with their demand for seed! Our trees make a perfect rain shelter for chickadees, doves, and nuthatches. I'm almost certain there's a nest out there, too, hidden among the leaves.

We had kielbasa, creamed peas, fresh veggies, coleslaw, Swedish rye (without caraway seeds, boohoo; I didn't have molasses for dark rye, either, and I was bummed), and devil's food cake with white icing. At the last minute I decided that the tiny ham and mashed potatoes were really just overkill for 2.5 diners.

For the first time, I attempted making just dough in the machine, and transferring it to the oven for baking. It was far too dense. I'm wondering if I should've let it rise again in the pan for a bit before baking.

My Easter Bunny brought me girly booze. I so need a martini glass!

I'm trying to catch up on video clips, so the next few entries will probably be movies. Here's the first one...

    Berry! Blog!
Our favorite neighborhood organic berry farmer has gone blog! She'll be posting recipes, so it's nice to visit even if you don't live in Petaluma.

I hope the rain stops in time to save those little red nuggets of perfect deliciousness!

    OKAY!
If the constant whining/crying/screaming paired with running away and hiding EVERY SINGLE TIME something needs to be done continues -- my HEAD is going to EXPLODE.

    Minutae Trail
Someone is building a nest in our front porch overhang. Aside from all the poop, it's kind of friendly, hearing feathers rustle past the kitchen window now and again.

Speaking of birds, tomorrow there are a couple of egg hunts in town, and I'm thinking it might be fun to take the bub to one. A good photo op, if nothing else.

Speaking of eggs, I really have to see if his chicken costume still fits. It's almost time for Butter and Egg Days again, and the Cutest Little Chick in Town contest, and I think he's got a shot. I mean, you've seen him in that costume, right?

Speaking of looking at stuff, here's my de-grottified oven drawer, just for Suze. It was all rusty underneath before, but now, post swearing session, I don't mind putting our pans there.

Most Blogspot users don't post a link to their RSS feed. Last night I realized that, regardless, my reader will still Auto Discover the feeds, yippedy! Buuuut... only for some. Not others.

Oh, and same goes for LJ -- except it's worked for every LJ I've tried.

Preparing to Indoctrinate the Geekdom Early
I'm having quite a time locating a pattern for a plain peasant shirt and breeches (and cap?) in size 2T. The Folkwear pattern set would work, but for some reason, the shirt pattern only goes up to 15 lbs. (???), and I don't trust myself to size it up. I wonder what kinds of ghastly lopsided things would come out of my machine if I just used his clothes to draw my own patterns?

ETA: Okay, I'm blind. I was looking at the wrong piece on the yardage chart. The tunic does come in sizes 2 and 4. Rock.

    Can It (?)
    I wonder: am I the only one? I hate (hate!) pull-tab cans. D. says I'm a freak.

I wonder if this tool would be worth getting. At least I wouldn't have to get my fingers near the sharp edges, or the splatter. And maybe -- just maybe -- the tabs wouldn't snap off before I was finished with them.
