You Know You Want It
I barely pick up a needle these days, but I'd be remiss if I didn't introduce you to Spring's yummy hand-painted yarns.

Eh!
I apologize for boring you. Hell, I'm boring me. But it's been kind of meh -- meh happenings, meh class, bubbins tantruming left and right all the live long day. Potential CL'ed Saturday sitters all falling through, no fun there. No exciting plans of any kind in the forseeable future. No projects -- no energy for them. Suffice it to say that homemaking is biting my butt just a wee bit at the moment, and not in a kinky way.
I'm walking every night, though. Two weeks now, without fail, regardless of any walking I've done during the day. Hard, fast, walks, at least two miles each. Already it's easier, and sometimes I feel I should fly into a run. But I know I'm not ready for that again yet, not nearly.
A couple of nights ago I met a toad on the trail, and he didn't even hop away.

That's the Future of America, Right There
Should a seven-year-old boy really be wearing a shirt that says "FBI: Female Body Inspector?"
And should children run amok around a restaurant flinging grenades, jumping around empty booths with plastic assault knives, and shooting the other patrons with machine guns?
I suppose these kinds of questions become standard fare when you decide to eat at restaurants that begin with D and end in y's.

Not a Card-Carrying Member of AA... Yet.
I don't even have wine every night, I swear!
It would only appear that way when the bub sees my wine glass on the counter full of nummy Muscat, points at it, and says "Mama's cup!"

Cool.
Of course it would figure that, as soon as we put in the A/C, the forecast would almost immediately change down by at least ten degrees all week. I actually woke up cold this morning. Not that I'm complaining! It's just typical, is all.
The next time a real hot streak threatens, I'll go out and buy a kiddie pool.

3-D Treats
Even though the oven is the last thing I want to think about right now, I cannot let these stand-up cookie cutters go un-noted. There's a holiday set, too. Squee!

What Transition?
So much for those pleasant, breatheable temps -- it went straight from the sixties/low seventies to NINETY SEVEN. Luckily this isn't the norm. But, still. We're putting in a window A/C this weekend. Because we can only spend so much time in the bathtub. And laptops aren't waterproof.

Ta Duh
Okay, so here's the "new" design (it's been in the works since I was pregnant, eesh). Yup, some things are broken, and the comments template needs tweaking, but it'll get there. And I promise that my archives won't be unreadable anymore, past, oh, next week sometime?

June... Gloom?
I know that June Gloom is supposed to be an L.A. thing, but I swear we're getting our share of it up here, too. All-day clouds, cool breezes.
No overwhelming desire to stab my sun-scorched eyeballs out or hide in the fridge (not that it's been as bad in Petaluma! because it's soooooo not even nearly comparable to that other valley).
Nothing gloomy about it. I hope it lasts until July!

Zoo
We went to the San Francisco Zoo today. Really couldn't have asked for better zoo-tromping weather -- cloudy and about 60°F. Hoorah!
The bub is getting a little more interested in the animals, though only the more exuberant ones. And of course the petting zoo (though we'll just forget that little dive Mommy had to take to keep him from picking up those fun little balls of "brown Kix.").
My favorite moment wasn't part of an exhibit, even -- it was a mating pair of hummingbirds. They were close enough to touch, in a tree just above our heads. The male flashed his ruby throat, and sang, and danced, and it was really such a rare treat to even see the wee things not zipping away. I came home and made sugar water for the pretty new glass feeder that, strangely enough, we just bought yesterday.
Here are a few photos. And here's a wallpaper of the meerkat, for those of you who enjoy charming, stylish rodents as I do.

Just Beachy
How much do I want to rent a cottage on PEI?
Pretty darned much, considering I've recently spent another six hours drooling over the landscape (though, yes, I know much of it was really shot in Ontario).

What Would We Do Without the Internets?
The previous owner of my car went REALLY heavy on the wax. Enough so that it clogged my driver-side windshield washer sprayer. I managed to remove what was visible, and it works if I leave it out in direct sunlight for an hour or two, but not otherwise. I figured, well, it's wax -- eventually it'll all be washed right out of the nozzle by washer fluid, right? But no. After two years, no.
Why, yes. This is a perfect example of just how well I can procrastinate.
I haven't tried canned air yet, but I'm going to, very shortly.

IP.O.'d
Does anyone else find those behind-the-neck headphones as excruciating/irritating as I do? Aaack. And with long, bushy hair... well, that makes 'em just so much worse, especially to get ON. Can someone tell me why they're a good idea?
I don't want any of the real weight borne by my EARS! I don't want any unnecessary contact of any hard parts with my ears at all. You should see what happens if a new pair of glasses doesn't fit just exactly in the little protected rut that's the product of two decades of gradually lessening pain. And of course those nasty little earbuds are right out. So I'm screwed if I want something that isn't painful and will sound halfway decent. Unless I take my dusk walks in the giant padded set I use at my PC.

Mission San Rafael Arcangel
Today we drove down to see the Mission San Rafael Arcangel. It was our second California mission; this one wasn't nearly as visit-friendly as Carmel, disappointingly.
It's no accident that the small mission bears the name of Raphael, a healing saint -- it was a satellite (asistencia) to Mission Dolores (San Francisco de Asis), and served as a respite for its sick.
Church Tower
Chapel/Museum (closed indefinitely!)
San Rafael the town was a lot more pleasant than I'd previously given it credit for, however, having only seen the crummier Highway 101 bits before today.

The Hugginator
I never thought Elmo could get tired of attention. But, as his days are filled with nearly identical scenes, he's been the one to break up the hugfest more often than not.

Community Chest
What makes the photo oh-so-unique is that I'm LYING on a SCRABBLE BOARD. And it's vintage, to boot.
Alfred Butts would be so proud.
