Oodles of Oddity
As mentioned in this early a.m. post, I've got, um, quite the interesting collection of photo clip art. I'd almost have paid to sit in on some of the live-action photo shoots, they must have been hilarious, not to mention quite possibly drunken. Instead of studying for my Acrobat quiz (oops) during the bub's nap this afternoon, I sat here, marvelling at thousands of pieces of slightly demented photographic ephemera.
So this week I'll post one freaky-diki selection each day. Because I love you ever so!
Maybe I should get this disgusting nightmare out of the way first. Caveat: don't be eating anything when you open it! It's pretty gross.

Recovered
I think I'm caught up on sleep, and back on a normal schedule already. And, bonus -- every time I even so much as look at a can of soda, I get slightly nauseous.
I'm swearing up and down to you, dear readers, that this was my very last 'thon (that's your cue to breathe a collective sigh of relief, right there). It was physically more torturous than years past, and it's more difficult to get support, with blogging not being quite the priority it once was, so mentally it was a strain, too. I will look forward to being an enthusiastic spectator next year.

Psst!
Hey, I'm over here! There's webcam action (just me, *sniff*), and a chat room.
So far, as a group, we've made $86 -- slow year! Think we can do better?

And Now, Back to Our Regularly-Scheduled 80's
It's back! Our beloved marine layer came back! It never hit 90 today, and, when I went out this evening in sandals and short pants, my tootsies got cold. Cold! And the hills were all misty, and the breeze was blowing, and I just now had to close the kitchen window because I was chilled. Huzzah!
Just in time for Blogathon. Which is this weekend. Just in case you forgot. I've got snacks, the webcam is at the ready, and there's a new drive-thru Starbucks up the street.

That Time of Year Again
Nothing like a hot, frightened bub on portrait day. Add two heat-cranky adults (one internalizing, the other not so much), and that's a fun day out, right there! Luckily, judging by the few poses that turned out well, you wouldn't guess it. Much. The scans aren't perfect, but it's miserable* where my Photoshop lives, and promises to be the same for several days out yet, so they'll do.
In any case, we won't be returning to that particular Picture People. The photographer -- who is around small children all day, and plenty of skittish ones, I'm certain -- was really aggressive and impatient with Daniel when he wouldn't warm up to her in, oh, two minutes flat. And there wasn't anyone else in the store (she'd in fact been standing outside when we arrived, trying to lure customers in with free prints), so it wasn't a matter of available time. I thought he'd eventually unwind, like he did last year, but it didn't happen. Should've walked out, in retrospect.
I fear, sometimes, that the degree of introversion he exhibits is inherited. I mean, we're out in public, every day almost, and he sees me [forcing myself to] interact positively with other adults. But my mom was the superduperhyperWOWextrovert... so did I just inherit my dad's introversion? It's something I think about a lot.

July is All About Kiddie Pools and Cable Drama
Gah, this heat is getting me all depressed and crabby. How I miss central air! I still feel we were handed a gross lie when told we wouldn't need it here.
But the kiddie pool is up out back, and we've had a few nice soaks now. The very best being today, when Daniel only tried to drink the pool water once (it usually ends our fun abruptly, even though he's had a perfectly good sippy of ice water sitting at the ready each time). Right after four is ideal, when our little trees offer the most shade of the day.
Here he is, all dapper in his diaper.
If I had to pick one C-list celebrity that I thought he would look most like when he grows up (humor me, my brain is fried on triple digits and The Most Boring Class in the World), it'd have to be Patrick Flueger (Shawn from The 4400). No?

Year Four
You thought I'd forgotten about the Blogathon, eh? Nope! I'm going to be up all night -- again! -- at the end of this month. Making it through twenty-four hours was so much more tolerable last year as a joint effort, that this year there'll be an entire crack team of fine bloggers (site unveiled soon).
I'm sure that, after all these years, you're getting a bit tired of me hitting you up for donations. But Heifer International is such an incredibly worthy cause, providing a measure of real sustainable livelihood to families, via gifts of livestock. So please consider a pledge!

I'm not sure this bodes well for the future noise level in our household...

Thoughts for Ebert
Roger Ebert had emergency surgery on Sunday, for complications caused by a previous operation for more cancer.
His wife, Chaz, reported yesterday that his condition is stable and improving.
I love to watch him verbally joust Richard Roeper over my second-favorite pastime every weekend, and I'll certainly be thinking about him as I watch the next pre-recorded show.

This Only Took an Evening and Night to "Process..."
A new video of the bub in all his untamed glory. It's long-ish, but the drama is at the end, so stick it out. That is, if you haven't passed out because of my amateur camerawork!
ETA: Here's a short, too. A little dark. As usual, it'll just look better if you downsize it.
ETA 2: Yes, I've been busy!

Cake Blogging
I've been trying to figure out what kind of cake to try for the bub's second (sniff!) birthday next month. We're not having a party, but it's good practice! In my webtravels, I found this blog chock-full of nothing but creative baking endeavors, neat.
