Notes
If you've been watching the Flickr stream, you'll know that, really, things haven't been as boring around here as the lack of posts would have you believe. I'm just not feeling real writerly.

Some things:

  • The Swimsuit '07 Search is off. Hoorah!
  • Numi flowering teas -- official grade of Awesome. Fascinating to watch open, especially for little ones. I can't stop thinking about the Golden Jasmine...
  • All my favorite shows -- Lost, Scrubs, The Office, Ugly Betty -- are done for the season after today, and another (Jericho) is gone forever (unless these people somehow get their way...). But at least The 4400 starts its fourth season June 17th.
  • Sundance darling Waitress is coming to town. Our little downtown theatre has had an increasingly difficult time attracting licensing for indie/indie-esque films, so I hope to support this one if I can. And, yes, seeing Nathan Fillion does add a big scoop of delicious motivation.
  • Our local (but reasonably-sized) hospital has never offered reliable epidural availability for birthing mothers. Terrifying much? Luckily last month it joined the 21st century.

    More Like 1983
Yup, I'm going back to fifth grade (humming John Mayer lyrics the whole time much?), and you can, too. Dioramas were my super-favorite school projects, hands down. Rock.

    Shiny and Old
Adding to my reads: Pyrex Love. Especially handy is their Vintage Pattern Identification Guide.

ETA: I'm also watching the official Photo Pool. Woot! I should probably think about photographically cataloging my own wee collection, and joining up...

    Dog Tales
While at the Schulz Museum (yes, again) today, I picked up a card for PeanutsStories.com. They're looking for submissions to add to their upcoming book, Security Blankets. According to the site:

What are we looking for? We’ve heard from folks who still own the plush Snoopy they received during a traumatic hospital stay; or exchanged the same Peanuts greeting card, back and forth, for years and years; or, while serving in the Armed Forces overseas, received a Peanuts card or item at an important moment … that sort of thing.

Submissions that are used will earn the storyteller credit and a free copy of the book. Regardless of inclusion, all stories will be forwarded to the Schulz Museum here for archives consideration.

I've loved Snoopy and the gang as long as I can remember, but I don't have any print-worthy stories to submit. Maybe you do!

    City by the Bay-ee-ay-ay
Yesterday was playing tourist day at Pier 39. Another great ride on the carousel, some time with the sea lions, the Musee Mechanique, and the Aquarium of the Bay (where, when we were in the undersea tunnels, I had to forcibly keep steering my thoughts away from The Big One. Shudder).

We thought maybe we could see the cool ILM lobby in the Presidio, but no such luck -- guess it's only open during typical business hours. Oh, well. At least we got to hang with Yoda a bit.

More pictures from the city trip at some point.

    David Wilcox
My sister and I saw David Wilcox at the historic Mystic downtown last night. What an excellent show, at the perfect, intimate venue. Eddie Elliott, who opened, was just terrific, too.

I only wish my camera had behaved better!

I enjoyed it so much, that it's lit a whole new "hop to, get a babysitter, woman!" fire beneath my ass.

    Rag Tag
Future superlibrarian Susie has tagged me, and I have to post seven random facts about myself. Here goes!

    1. My first choice for college was U of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I was accepted into the Honors College, but they had a severe dorm crowding issue and no space left for me; I wanted that part of the college experience badly and ended up at NMU instead.

    2. The thought of watching a mechanical blade cutting a flap in my eyeball -- and not so much the things that could go wrong -- is why I'm apprehensive about LASIK.

    3. Sometimes I like liverwurst.

    4. Speaking of stinky meats. When I worked at the supermarket deli, I had to wear the most embarassing mint-and-white-striped beanie. And matching apron. No, there aren't any photos.

    5. I still don't think she's going to kill off Harry Potter. I just don't!

    6. I think the new-ish Curious George series on PBS is hilarious. And not necessarily in ways the writers might have intended ("George and Jumpy played nut hockey until the sun went down."). Ahem.

    7. I had to take organic chemistry twice. Ack.

Now you can do this, too. Or not! I won't pressure you.

    Things
More for my own reference later than anything:

NorCal Pirate Fest! Vallejo, June 16th & 17th.

North Country Trail. Can I walk the entire U.P. someday? Hmm.

Grizzly Island, in the Suisun Marsh.

    Martha Stewart Crafts.

And I'm waiting impatiently on this vintage Fisher-Price carousel "record" player. Paid one-third the catalog value, though it is missing two records and all the People (but that just adds to the fun of the hunt -- already scored a tidy pile of replacement records). Daniel loves music, and I think he's going to get a kick out of it. They really don't make 'em like they used to. Sigh.
