Geeky gifts (and some projects, too!)

Acorn Studios offers up bits and bobs made from recycled circuit boards, floppies, cds, keyboards, etc. Nifty little stocking stuffers!

And be sure to check out the project page. My favorite for whimsy is the Car Mirror Shelf, and for plain old simplicity and ingenuity, the Cassete Case Business Card Holder.

Fiendishly easy

Here's a little silly I threw together while gorging myself on all those fantastic fall premieres. It's easy enough that an older child could make one (with bigger "mosaic" pieces advisable), and it costs literally pennies.

Mine used:

  • The plastic bakery tray from my delicious birthday cake

  • Scraps of adhesive-backed foam sheets from other projects

  • A length of black ribbon, saved from a gift

  • Adhesive foam letters and ghosts (or whatever!)

  • Sharp scissors, a sturdy hole punch (for the hanging holes), and a bunch of time to cut and fit little scraps together
  • My photo probably makes it difficult to see, but the tray had perfect shallow "wells" to comfortably hold the mosaic and orange field, which is what gave me the idea!
