Pic of the Week:
Fun With Septoplasty

It all started about eight months ago, when I began having such horrible sinus infections that I was running high-grade fevers and passing out nearly every couple weeks. Oh, yeah -- and I couldn't breathe, either. This year, I've been on about six different antibiotics in vain attempts to kill it off for good. Finally my good doctor sent me to a specialist, who immediately saw that I had a grossly deviated septum and enlarged turbinates (bony structures that jut out into the nasal cavity), and together they were blocking off my sinus passages -- and causing me no end of misery. So, last week, off to Crittenton Outpatient I went, to get the problem fixed surgically. Yes, ouch. But general anaesthesia sure is a trip. And Tylenol 3 is pretty awesome stuff, too...

Go ask Alice...

It feels like someone shoved a football up my nose -- they've got these plastic splints wired in that come out on Monday. And those of you who know how uncoordinated I am can imagine how difficult it is to keep from whacking my nose into walls and furniture and people and such. But I can actually breathe -- finally!
